RA Smith have installed Pressure Reducing Valves (PRV), Water Pressure Monitoring Points and Flowmeters on Sydney Water’s trunk and reticulation water supply networks. PRVs have been installed both in-line and off-line on watermains from 100mm diameter up to 2100mm diameter across the Sydney Water area of operations. PRV installations involve large concrete pits to house the units, connections to the existing water supply and provision of electrical conduits for cabling.
Replacement or new flowmeters are installed in-line on the water supply system and have been installed on mains from 200mm to 900mm diameter. Flowmeter installations can involve deep and intricate excavations within public areas or reservoir sites. Our skilled personnel are experienced in trench shoring systems to allow access for the installation of the flowmeter and cabling.
We also undertake the installation of complex pipework connections for potable water distribution networks, pressure sewer installations, and the like ensuring controlled flows and integrated systems.
The RA Smith Plant and Equipment fleet includes:
- Tracked excavators from 1.5-tonnes to 49-tonnes, with multiple bucket and attachment options for excavation in all ground conditions.
- Specialist attachments (telescopic Clamshell; Hydraulic hammer for Hardwood Foundation Piles; etc.)
- Small tip-trucks, Bogie tippers and Truck & Dog ranging from 2-tonne up to 32-tonne payloads
- Vacuum ‘Sucker’ truck
- Compressors, Small tools, generators, etc.
Our excavator fleet also includes several ‘Zero swing’ machines, adding an extra dimension to their versatility and usage options, as well as a combination of both steel-tracked and rubber-tracked options.
Please see below details related to the additional services we offer:
- Excavation – We can deliver either bulk or detailed excavation services on the basis of a fixed price, hourly or per-load rates, or can provide equipment and operators on hourly hire to support your needs. This can also include the transportation, either on or off-site, of the excavated materials in our small fleet of tipper trucks (supported by subcontractors if required). Operators are also fully trained and experienced working in high-risk locations (Beneath & adjacent to overhead power; near and within rail corridors; adjacent to live traffic; etc.).
- Trenching – As all of our Plant Operators are highly experienced in trench excavation, this service can be provided on the same basis as Excavation should you require.
- Vacuum Trucks – Our vacuum truck fleet consists of three operating vehicles of differing capabilities and capacities, which enable a variety of activities to be performed effectively including:
- Non-destructive excavation – ground removal in the vicinity of underground utilities using only water jetting utilising the high-pressure jetting attachments, and vacuuming of the debris generated;
- Road, drain and trash screen cleaning – The vacuum hose on these trucks can remove debris, leaf-litter and blockages which, if not easily dislodged, can be agitated with the jetting attachment.
- Deep shaft excavation – We own a ‘clamshell’ telescopic excavator attachment which, when installed to our customised excavator, can undertake deep excavations up to 15 metres below operating levels in locations with limited access and slewing space.
