PLANT AND VEHICLES

R.A. Smith Contracting own and operate specialist earthmoving and excavation equipment, specifically set up for civil works in urban areas. In particular, our equipment is designed for work in roadways, footways and anywhere that requires minimal impact on the surrounding natural and built environment.

We have excavators, ranging from 4.5 tonne to 35 tonne, many zero swing allowing them to set up on the roadway whilst vehicles are able to pass with minimal disruption.

Our zero swing machines also allow us to excavate close to obstructions such as power poles, trees, fencing and buildings, meaning that trenches can be excavated in locations that conventional equipment cannot go. Our 13 tonne Komatsu machine and New Holland LE45 have zero offset for even greater flexibility.

Our trained and experienced operators hold tickets for working beneath live power lines. They are vastly experienced in digging around trees, power poles, underground services and anything else you would expect to find in built up urban, commercial or industrial areas.

All of our earthmoving machines are fitted with rubber tracks or pads allowing them to safely work on roadways, kerbs, driveways and slabs without causing damage to the assets.

Our trenching equipment carries a range of rock breaking attachments for any width and depth of trench as well as augering equipment. This complements or range of hand held rock / concrete breaking equipment which includes compressor and jack-hammers and diamond chainsaw. We have ongoing relationships with specialist Sub-contractor excavation companies who use the latest technology and innovations to dig anywhere that pipes need to go.R.A. Smith have a hydraulic pile driving hammer suited to the installation of hardwood timber foundation piles with minimal impact force to the surrounding area. This allows us to lay pipes and construct manholes in unsupportive soils in a manner that complies with Engineering Standards and the WSAA Code.

Our fleet of small to bogie tippers plus truck and dog range from 2 tonne to 32 tonne payloads, allowing access into busy residential and CBD areas without major disruption to surrounding traffic.

Our waste product is logged and tracked to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and our plant and vehicles carry satellite tracking and monitoring for safety and security.

In addition we carry equipment for restorations of roadways so that trenches are excavated, backfilled and fully restored on the same day. This allows us to minimise the impact on the community and ensures that temporary restorations are of a high standard.

We own and operate a jetpatcher cold spray sealing unit and Flocon hot asphalting unit which provides the flexibility to choose a temporary or permanent restoration solution to meet the requirements of the asset owner. Our asphalting equipment is available for hire in Sydney Metro or other areas.

R.A. Smith Contracting runs a crane truck with an 11 tonne metre crane capable of lifting 1.5 tonnes at 6m, and with 16m reach. Our crane truck is available for hire in Sydney Metro and has 16 tonne payload.

We have a Sucker Truck and jetter that can vacuum lift leaf litter from drains and litter baskets. GPT units can be high pressure cleaned including removal of fine particles trapped on trash screens and in sump pits.

Non Destructive Digging (NDD) combines the use of high pressure water jetting with vacuum extraction to create pot-holes and slip trenches for underground cable location without the use of mechanical or hand excavation.NDD is a fast and effective way to find underground services and obstructions to eliminate the risks of damage to utility services and the dangers of excavation around live cables.

All of R.A. Smith’s fleet are operated by trained and experienced drivers and operators. Records of maintenance are kept in line with our Quality Assurance objectives and are made available to our clients in line with OH&S requirements. On request NGERS Reporting can be made available on a project specific basis to our clients to assist in meeting Greenhouse Gas Emissions reporting requirements.
